2020 first Blog of the year

At the start of this decade our world of 'what to eat' is in a mad swirl of different ideas or opinions.  Everything from actually eating nothing, called fasting, to all vegetables or yet again all meat. And there are many stops in between. Even if you are well into studying the subject, about 4  years for me, you can still be mightily confused. Heaven help the beginner.

Once you are on the path of self help it does not mean that if you have accepted one particular way of feeding yourself that is it, you never change. The trouble is the information never comes to you in sequence. I am constantly tweaking and changing my mind. Much to my husband's annoyance, he does all the cooking, when I announce that this week I am not going to eat this but will try a bit of that. I am at present trying to eat in an anti inflammatory way plus lose a bit of weight gained in the last month.

But to look at any of the papers, web sites, Facebook or Twitter pages the controversies rage on. Are you going to die if you don't eat vegetables, or solely exist on carnivore meats? Will it be scurvy or lack of vitamin B12 that will get you? Perhaps none of them will harm you and may even make your life much better. After all you can always change your mind if one method does not suit you, for that is what they are, methods of eating or you could even go back to the standard processed food diet and be ill, even that way of eating won't kill you off right away. Meanwhile let the gurus all pontificate,  choose what seems to suit you, in a years time even you may be eating in a slightly different way.

Thanks for your many likes

Well my post that went mini viral yesterday has set me up to get on with trying to help more people. It was such fun, 4500 likes and nearly 500 retweets. Plus many likes on my FB group. I cannot thank everyone enough. Except for my helpful husband I have had to do my journey on my own, researching, learning, experimenting. I did it mostly for health reasons but my weight loss is a bonus. There are no doctors that know anything about low carb eating round here. And I have no money for private doctors.

Today I did my once a week visit to our Leisure Centre to do a workout in the gym. I thought you might like to see the splendid view we have out to sea over our local Football ground. It makes peddling that bike and pulling that rowing machine a pleasure. I do it for a more aerobic exercise as I do resistance bands and weights at home.

So I am really going to try to find time to write a book for ordinary people by an ordinary person about Eating Real Food. There are lots of very clever people writing superb books but often without many basics. Trying to explain to a friend today made me realise that we who know forget how hard it is to get that understanding of things like 'fat does not make you fat but sugar does'. But I do get tired and by 10.00pm I am pooped and ready for my bed so finding the time is not easy

LCHF81 How I got started with LCHF way of eating

LCHF81
Since I put up my before and after photo I had an unbelievable uptake. I was asked a few times 'How did I do it? My answer is always 'With great difficulty'. I started with a cry of desperation. Which of us do not understand that? I was getting to the end of many, many years of IBS with severe  Diarrhoea. It became so bad I dare not leave the house for fear of an accident, of which I had several. I was sent to our local hospital to have a bowel scan. It came back with an answer I had heard so often. Nothing found wrong. I came home and cried.

A year or so before I'd had a stomach ulcer that I had cured with a diet suggested by the hospital, it was anything but a low carb diet but my ulcer was gone. I thought if that had been cured with a diet I wondered if there was a diet that would help the IBS. Vaguely thought of giving up eating bread. I asked a GP what he thought and he said 'it was worth a try'.  Like so many of us, including doctors, I turned to Dr Google and YouTube. After several weeks the penny was beginning to drop. Low Carb High Fat. I found ZoĆ« Harcombe's page and I used her easy starter.

I ate simple real low carb food for two weeks and eureka! I my Diarrhoea had stopped. It has been a three year journey from there to the photo a day or so ago I posted on Twitter. Sometimes I say I have nearly done a PHD in LCHF etc. but my only background was training many years ago in Physical Education which included Anatomy and Physiology. I wanted to help others so I started a FB support group which was meant for UK but now we have folks from all over the world. I am trying to write book, aren't we all. Will try  to write more.
